Dylan Aplin, Dental Therapist

I graduated as a dental therapist in 2007 and now work at the Roslyn School Dental Clinic in Palmerston North.

It's my first job and it's great. Everything I learned during my studies has come together here. I was pretty fortunate because I was awarded a scholarship from MidCentral DHB worth $6000 to do my dental therapy training at Otago University.

I've always been interested in teeth and oral health. Teeth fascinate me. Did you know that enamel is the hardest surface in the human body? Teeth affect so many things. If you have poor teeth, you will have poor health. They are central to your overall health and wellbeing.

It's great having my own clinic and getting to know the kids really well. I love working with children, and using my creative and imaginative skills so they understand what I'm doing.

I work from 8am to 4.30pm week days and have the school holidays off.

I feel very confident about my future. There are lots of things I can do to extend my work options and salary level. As well as this, my qualification is recognised in Australia, the UK, and Canada.

I think dental therapy is a great job to get into.
